castles

the castles I built
when I was young
diminished by tide
and setting suns

carefree youth
days long past
happy times
not meant to last

the child disappears
with the ebbing tide
leaving questions
fears that hide

a façade of strength
to get you through
most times not knowing
what to do

the hour glass
with sand now spilled
a jaded life
not what you willed

longing for youth
ever the child
building castles
in your mind
