lover's wine

last night I dreamed a thousand lies
floating on moonbeams not surmised
a faceless lover I recognize
dreams once dreamed that won't survive
only coming forth at night

breezes lilting. deep green pine
our bodies flattening a design
on dense, sweet grass and forest vine
love heats quickly as we entwine
and you taste a lover's wine

sunlight hits my opened eyes
revealing all of the night lies
of a dearly beloved and I
blazing truth in heart not mind
this broken heart split open wide

I dream

a sky of blue
a sea of green
this sandy beach
on which I dream

the tide ebbs
and then it neaps
under starlit skies
my promises keep

cast them out
upon a wave
and what comes back
will always remain

those that float
away from me
were not the ones
for me to keep

last call

here where your west was all but won
you didn't ask anything, nothing at all
on top of a mountain where you see for miles
down to my valley where it was last call

I played it all out, a map marked for you
from the middle of the beginning with all new false starts
the trail had some bends that didn't get plotted
it rends just like fabric and it all falls apart

I got lost for awhile in the chambers of my heart
couldn't find my way back into your open arms
secure in my mind with an ego that bends
and snaps like a twig under footsteps that harm

blind is the trail where roses are strewn
words never whispered from love songs not heard
insight doesn't enter, the skies remain blue
each line that was written lays North undisturbed

here where your west was once all but won
you didn't ask anything, I heard in my head
on the top of a mountain top where you see for miles
last rites are said as I bury my dead

I dreamed you were here

I dreamed you were here
we sat on my terrace
sipping wine under the stars
the full moon bathing us in lunar light

I dreamed you were here
singing me a love song
as we danced, locked together,
barely moving to the song you sang

I dreamed you were here
holding me close under Egyptian sheets
your whispered words
surrounding me with love

morning dawns, the dream fades
as I stretch and turn
reaching out for you
finding you weren't there

vignette

I dreamed of you
again last night
a short vignette
which I forget
but I know you were there
inside fantasies
touching me in
louvered moonlight

a sweet dream

finally, a sweet dream comes
of sandy beaches and warm sun
of moonlight walks, hand in hand
two sets of footprints
in the sand
I wake refreshed,
yawn, and stretch
 this time a dream,
I don't forget

contrast

once again I dream
vivid visions that vary
contrasts dark to light

dreams

finally, I dream
dreams of you
dreams of the beach
sweet, prophetic dreams

for keeps

what you have given me
something I can hold on to
a dream I can keep
a love I can look back on
it belonged to you
for a short while
now moving away
as life gets in the way
savoring in my heart
what could have been

stardust

in a darkened sky
my angel sees me sleep
'neath galaxies of stars
watching ever over me

sprinkling sweet stardust
to bless me as I dream
of you, of tides, of beaches
of memories that I keep

dreams

as you sleep
I slip into your dreams
your heart quickening
as I vacillate through your veins
assaulting every sense
reaching every corner
of your being

confession

in the still of the night
when coyotes howl
when stars shine and
the moon rises high
that is when you come
your shadow on my mind
your touch on my dream
in which I belong to you

perfect

I tired to bottle time
to hold it close to me
but it keeps slipping through
like sand in the hour glass

perfect little moments
perfect was that time
maybe gone forever
except in fantasy

it all came together
dreams sometimes do come true
memory locked inside a heart
dreams kissed by the moon

call me up baby

call me up please baby
you're the voice
I want to hear
mellifluous lyrics
bringing my dreams near
wish me a sweet goodnight
tuck me in via the phone
call me up please baby
I hate to sleep alone

dream

the soft hum of the
ceiling fan
lulls me to sleep...

I dream of you
and the beach
moist sand and tides
a star filled sky
moonlight flooding
my night

I wake with a smile

forsaking dreams

yesterday's love underneath my pillow...
at night before I go to sleep...
hoping that dreams of you are sweet...
yearning to be in that far off place...
where we explored possibilities...
hot kisses given in candlelight...
a brush with passion, whispered sighs...
I float, weightless, over deserted beach...
past boardwalks and haunted seascapes...
through shuttered, cobwebbed, vacant rooms...
candlewax remnants on a dusty floor...
searching high and low for what evades...
the sun rises high seeping through my blinds...
the pillowcase wet from forsaking dreams...

senses

late at night I can touch it
how real it does all seem
there you are beside me
an apparition in my dreams

in fantasy I can taste it
savoring the ambrosia taste
a flavor I got used to
from our much earlier days

on clothing, I still smell you
your shirt that I sleep in
an aroma that was Heaven
a musk from your tan skin

on my MP3 I hear you
the love songs, lyric complete
in every single lyric and line
you are here with me

in daylight I can't see it
not hear, touch, taste or smell
with the dawn it's all erased
dreams the only place it dwells

Dreams

Falling into deep, deep sleep
A dream with only me
A dream of greener pastures
Dreams of prophecy?

Standing in a meadow
Flowers all around
Flowers of every color
Around me do surround

Lifting up my tired arms
I smile and close my eyes
Turn my face into the sun
Releasing all old ties

And now I’m being lifted
And soar into the air
Soaring over meadows
Leaving all life’s cares

Weightless and enchanted
The dream goes on till light
Waking serene and happy
From a tranquil, peaceful flight

moonlight and memory

moonlight and memory burn in dreams
and poetry can not capture
thoughts and feelings from long ago
when you held me enraptured

tossing and turning I do not rest
trying to avoid this faceless apparition
the body is there and the features appear
bringing the dream to fruition

hurry sun and rise, shine through these blinds
so once more, it will all disappear
let coffee clear my head, erasing this dread
that reminds me that you are not here
