summer on the way

the wind blows hard
and winter's turned cold
I pulled up my collar
against the driving snow
the roads are slick
and covered with thick ice
I dream of warmer days
and summer on the way

my eyes are stinging
watering with tears
it hasn't been this way
for oh, so many years
I'm chilled to the bone
just longing to be back home
I dream of warmer days
and summer on the way

out here in the heartland
all the pipes are frozen up
snow is piling in drifts
there's way more than enough
a snow day for the kids
a skiers paradise
I dream of warmer days
and summer on the way

bring back all the heat
days by the swimming pool
days of shorts and flip-flops
sweat with all I do
I can adjust to anything
I don't have to shovel
I long for warmer days
and summer on the way

lightning strike

lightning flashes across the sky
energy I feel in my veins
it illuminates all, the here and the now
unleashing what lays underneath

thunder rumbles, low and long
tremors shaking deep inside
it forewarns the storm, about to come
the passion quaking inside of me

it does strike twice starting as a glow
it does ignite the heat and desire
it does burn hot, white and intense
it does cause the fire that burns within

nature's ferocity at its best
matched by passion's avidity
stirring what lays just under the skin
a fervor unbridled and set free

let the lightning flash and the thunder roll
striking twice, igniting it all
release the fury..this raging inferno
saddle and ride the tempestuous wind

it does strike twice starting as a glow
it does ignite the heat and desire
it does burn hot, white and intense
it does cause the fire that burns within

desert winter

the wind blows cold
the sky is grey
the sun doesn't shine

winter comes to the desert

snow will fall in the mountains
frosting them icy white
a beautiful vision

meteor shower

a meteor shower is about to come
the weatherman's predicting
the southwest sky is very clear
so clouds won't be conflicting
I'm gonna grab a blanket, baby
we can cuddle to stay warm
with body heat and the blanket
we can watch the meteor storm

spread a sleeping bag on the ground
let's watch as each one falls
snuggling close, in between each kiss
we may not view them all
maybe we can catch a few
if we open up our eyes
a celestial event such as this
viewed best in the pre-dawn hours

winter

the desert mountains
peppered with snow
winter comes
with its frosty glow
a beautiful photo
remains in my mind
of saguaro standing
spines sparkle
with ice

nature

a hawk soars high in cloudless sky
echoing, its shrilling screech
perching on a still dead limb
sitting, watching you and me

snow lays still upon the bank
protected by the acres of trees
ripples flow across the lake
from a chilling spring time breeze

casting in the stillness
your three you set free
my first rainbow not let go
but grilled that night for me

wonderland

blanketed with fresh fallen snow
white, crystallized in a full moon's glow
doe eyes view--the only beholder
paw prints left from the intruder

underneath in frozen wonder
grass lays green, an icy tundra
waiting for the warm breath of spring
a thawing trend to set it free

wandering through this wonderland
silence plays without its band
laying down moving hands and feet
a snow angel the marking that I leave

winter returns

lantana poke their flowery heads
out of winter flower beds
thinking it was safe to bloom
meet their death from icy doom

sunset

there is a reason
the sun sets in the West
going down, the day is done
and as we relax and unwind
it sizzles softly into the ocean

mountains majestic
green and tall
the mighty saguaro
arms outstretched

the moon rises high
to a coyote howl
and a million stars
watch us sleep

the sun, jealous, in the East
rises early and tries to compete
although the dawn is a beautiful red
the splendor of the sunset wins

leaves

leaves...red, orange and brown
barren limbs from where they hung
winter coming fast

storm

it may storm and the winds may blow
the lightning flash and thunder rumble
we weather the storms and the monsoon rain
climb out of the washes where the water rushes

the tempest blows and pushes hard
but we're holding on, holding strong
wandering down this mountainside
to the valley below where the stars collide

take my hand and lead me through
protect this heart wrapped up in you
suspend the moments and hold the thoughts
breathing freshness, the storm has wrought

not giving back

we pillage the future and rape the land
we don't give back, can't understand
what was once a garden of Eden
is all lost by our deceiving

we fill the air with toxic dust
while into oceans oils gush
sea life dies from our mistakes
volcanoes flow, and the ground quakes

what will it take to make us see?
what will it cost to make Earth clean?
what we pass on to our heirs
what we destroyed without a care
