adieu

you weren't expecting
the ace of hearts
who snuck right in
and filled your part
an empty vessel
waiting at the table
he was wanting more
adept and able

you weren't thinking
that we could end
not worrying about
how we did begin
not seeing the space
that left me wanting
all of the while
you sat there yawning

a decade ago
you had a chance
not sure if you knew
even how to dance
but waltzing I did
just not with you
as the curtain falls
and I bid adieu
