Heart Haiku

I remove the safety
and aim in the direction of your heart
once again, love misses

the rose

like a bee to nectar you rush
through the garden, heading
directly to the biggest red rose
in your path the tulip, vibrant and strong
in your haste for the beautiful rose,
you brush against the tulip, obliviously
knocking the fragrant petals to the ground
you grab for the perfect rose and curse
to yourself as the barbs from the stem
cut into your ungloved hand
as you wipe the blood, from the vicious
tear in your skin on your pants, you look down
at the dirt and on the tulip
now crushed under your boots

Slow

I need to take it slow
Learn the nuances, the stories of you

Enjoy the beginning, let momentum build
Savor the moments and commit them to memory

Learn the attributes of who you are
Study the intricacies of your mind

Don’t rush, take it step by step
Let the feelings grow, root

Let me figure out where I am
Where I want to go, what I need

I want to take it slow
All good things take time

Separation

I am far from my beach
From the sea that I love
From the casa that is empty

I am feeling the separation
I am feeling the disconnection
I am feeling overwhelmed

Can’t go there now
Too much to do
Not enough hours in the day

But it waits for me
To once again rejuvenate me
To restore my spirit and soul

If only thinking about it
Could do the same magic
Work the miracle that happens when I am there

But it doesn’t work that way
Thinking about it doesn’t make it so
Doesn’t have the same affect

I need the rescue
I need it’s strength
I need it’s enchantment

I need to walk on my beach
I need to sit on my portico with coffee
I need to smell the salt, feel the gentle breeze

It will be a long while
Before I can get back
Back to Mexico, my redemption

Read Between The Lines

Your thoughts are deep,
like Voltaire or Nietzsche

And you pen them
your insight, feelings, love, hurt

But there is more to you
I read between the lines

Discover the thoughts and the process
look into the lines, the intricacy

Unravel the spirit and the soul
remove the veil so others can see

Let your heart be unbound
let it soar and love

I hope you find what you seek
what you write about, yearn for

Then write about that too
inspire others like you inspire me

First Time

You say you’re going out with the boys
You need to kick back and relax a while
You probably will not be home that late
Like that’s the first time I heard that

It’s now going on two am
No call from you, I’m not surprised
You could at least let me know that you’re alive
Like that’s the first time that happened

Playing pool at the pub downtown
Flirting, drinking and doing who knows what
I know what time all the bars are closed
Like that’s the first time you did that

Oh, wait, your car pulled in the drive
It’s four am and you’re way late
Can’t wait to hear what you have to say
Like that’s the first time you used that

Your hair is mussed, and you smell cheap
And a lipstick stain is on your cheek
I'd like to slap you but you wouldn't feel it
Like that’s the first time you looked like that

There’s your bed, it’s on the couch
Don’t wake me up, you can’t come in
Please go to bed before you pass out
Like that’s the first time I told you that

My bags are packed, I’m really going
Had enough of this, the party’s over
Enjoy the boys, let them help you through
This is the last time I’m saying this to you

Nietzsche Haiku II

Nietzsche says “no price is to high to pay
for the privilege of owning yourself”
They probably had zero percent interest!

Inner Peace

Another day, the sun is low
Setting in the west
All is as it should be
No different from the rest

Listening to my mp3
And thinking about you
Sitting on the patio
Nothing I need to do

Smiling about the things you say
I’m happy and at ease
My days didn’t always end this way
You have this affect on me

You’ve restored my inner peace
You’ve restored my repose
You’ve restored some things I lost
You’ve restored so much more

I know that you are thinking of me
As I am thinking of you
Watching the same sunset
Each sunset that now seems new

orthodromic distance is the shortest
distance between two points on a sphere

Serenity

the soft wind blows
and kisses my cheek
hair, tossed and wild

the sun shines on me
pinking my Irish nose
my skin rosy and warm

and nature smiles all around
flowers lifting petals to the bright daylight
birds chirping, bees sipping nectar

this is the way that it was meant to be
a world created with peace in mind
a world of calmness and serenity

Walk Away

I remember the first day that we met
It was cold and very wet
I was not what you’d expect
You seem delighted with what you get

The day went by so very fast
We talked of things from both our pasts
Under skies so overcast
We wondered if we could make it last

You tell secrets, as do I
Things we’ve kept from prying eyes
Things we feel, we don’t deny
That’s the bond, the one that ties

In a lot of ways we are the same
Mind and hearts now set aflame
Knowing now it’s not a game
A bond has formed, we both have changed

It’s time to part and go our ways
We hug, we promise, hopes convey
One last kiss under skies of gray
As we turn around and walk away

Scrabble

Draw the tiles
Make the words
You go first

Too bad for you
I used all my tiles for
My first word, bingo

What? I challenge
Is that a word?
I didn’t think so

5 - a’s, 1 - y, 1 - e
What can I do with this?
Redraw

The game is close
You play an impressive word
Muy points!

I still win
My skill unmatched
Except by my daughter

Who always wins!

Once Again

You slammed the door
Shouting “this is it”
Storming off, once again

The tears fall
Wounded to the core
Once again

How did we get here
Loving less, fighting more
Once again

How do we get back
Begin anew
Once again

Wave the white flag
Call a truce
Once again

This time though
Let’s work harder, avoid the hot buttons
Once again

I hear your key in the lock
You feel it too
Once again

We kiss and make up
Apologies accepted
Once again

Controlled

On bended knee you beg of me
Don’t give up, don’t set me free

But I know now I can’t stay
We would have ended anyway

You hold to tight, you must control
I don’t like it this I know

Go and come do as I please
You not always here with me

I need freedom to do as I want
I’m not acting nonchalant

You can’t bear to be alone
Need me there or on your phone

This is it I’ve had enough
I’m finally going, I know it’s tough

You’ll find somebody else to own
But this relationship I can’t condone

I need my own life, I’ll see what I find
Good luck to you and your new life

restless heart

a restless heart
you are on my mind
and yet once again
I sleep alone tonight
where are you?
are you missing me?
or do you not ever
even think of me
miles and miles apart
several time zones away
is it just geographical
or are you feeling it too
I’m here sleepwalking
through each and every day
my thoughts always on you
while these questions still remain

fuel the fire

white hot fire
feel me burn
from your touch

just a look
starts the rush
embers glow

no control
no will
no hesitation

fuel the fire
light the match
ignite me

ignite me once again

My Birthday Wish For You

May your guardian angel never sleep
And always keep you safe

May you always be blessed
And find what you seek

May love always surround you
And give you serenity

May the memories you keep
Sometimes include me

May your spirit be strong
And keep your soul free

May the lives that you’ve touched
Give you satisfaction and inner peace

Happy Birthday!
