sheltered and concealed
I can't see all that's real
thoughts turn in my mind
of you and another time

I need to see the truth
the other side of you
you turn your face away
love slips again from grace

pulling on thoughts forgot

an exact aria

arm tight around my waist

not an unfamiliar stance

this time no partner cuts

we complete the dance begun
it doesn't all come undone

we finally get it right

crimson curled leaves
buried under white snow
heavy clouds hang overhead
a freezing wind that blows

inside the fire crackles
a cozy  winter scene
lover's laying close
the picture of serenity

nothing like a winter's night
as I lay in your arms
listen to the wind howling

Saturday night with friends
paste the smile on at the door
dressed up to the nines
cover it up so it doesn't show
Sunday morning's coming round

we hit the clubs and dance
they're searching for new romance
not me I've had enough

looking out a frosted window
your coffee slowly drips
more snow and freezing cold

it does all come down
it does come to a point
while you were searching for yours
I was searching for mine
that small little dot
holds a lot of meaning
maybe not written for me
but poignant just the same
it does leave a taste
a taste that's bittersweet
the fog rolled back in

only a friend would listen
when I try to sort it out
over-analytical puzzles
that fill me with such doubt
listening quietly to me
an overly familiar route

only a friend with wisdom
knows the words to say
to try to end this quandary
questions that still plague
to put this all behind us
keep it forever at bay

only a friend who cares
lives up to these needs
when I hit overload
my limit has been exceeded
puts me back on track
so the friendship can succeed
not always about you
sometimes it's about me
