Living each new moment
Always on my own
Unshared thoughts and memories
Is all that I have known
When will I be rescued
Hopeless, lonely, lost
Respite from a solitary life
Redeemed at any cost
Come to me and share my dreams
Share my every emotion
Give to me your thoughts and love
And promise me devotion
Building a life of harmony
With everything we share
Abolish this emptiness inside
Answer all my prayers
I will wait here patently
Come and find me soon
Our new horizon waits
A future brightly looms

Trails
As I walk along this trail
I wonder why my love has failed
Thought I did all that I could
To make it go the way it should
Never, ever turned out right
All we ever did was fight
Even though my love stayed true
It was not enough for you
Know I could not make you stay
Knew that you would leave one day
Left me here without a word
Not caring about the pain incurred
I’m the only one in pain
Your life has remained unchanged
Someday you will know this ache
When your love is put at stake
You’ll seek redemption from your past
And all the sorrows you amassed
If you’re very, very contrite
Forgiveness may come from these slights
I wonder why my love has failed
Thought I did all that I could
To make it go the way it should
Never, ever turned out right
All we ever did was fight
Even though my love stayed true
It was not enough for you
Know I could not make you stay
Knew that you would leave one day
Left me here without a word
Not caring about the pain incurred
I’m the only one in pain
Your life has remained unchanged

The Answer
I have felt what you feel now
I know where you are
You are feeling tormented
And your heart is scarred
Telling me that you’re aching
And that you are alone
Why did all of this happen?
You are really thrown
I want to be your answer
I’ve loved you for so long
Been unable to tell you
While your heart’s not strong
I will help you reason
Help your heart to mend
Be there for you always
Help you to contend
When your heart and faith have healed
My love to you I’ll swear
Hopeful that you will embrace
All that I want to share
I know where you are
You are feeling tormented
And your heart is scarred
Telling me that you’re aching
And that you are alone
Why did all of this happen?
You are really thrown
I want to be your answer
I’ve loved you for so long
Been unable to tell you
While your heart’s not strong
I will help you reason
Help your heart to mend
Be there for you always
Help you to contend
When your heart and faith have healed
My love to you I’ll swear
Hopeful that you will embrace
All that I want to share
Beliefs
Holding on to my beliefs
And what I know is right
Sometimes bending of the rules
To make it fit my life
You want me to change some things
To be a better fit
To the way you live your life
And say I must submit
Why can’t I just be me?
And love you as I will
Instead of altering my whole life
Just so you're fulfilled
Maybe your ways you should change
To make my life complete
Being something that I’m not
Borders on deceit
If our love is meant to be
We have some work ahead
Make adjustments as we go
Tenderly we’ll tread
And what I know is right
Sometimes bending of the rules
To make it fit my life
You want me to change some things
To be a better fit
To the way you live your life
And say I must submit
Why can’t I just be me?

Careless
Never was I careless
Tried to do what’s right
Following the guidelines
a template for my life
Protection from the harmful
Protection from the pain
Still some was inflicted
And knowledge there was gained
Goals for what I’m needing
Goals for what should be
Goals left by the sideline
Goals I can’t foresee
Still I will be careful
Especially with my heart
Feeling out the aggressor
So I don’t fall apart
Always starting slowly
Like a slow, slow dance
You can win me over
I am worth a chance
Tried to do what’s right
Following the guidelines
a template for my life
Protection from the harmful
Protection from the pain
Still some was inflicted
And knowledge there was gained
Goals for what I’m needing

the prey
I ran out of moonlight
lost my direction
you went ahead
severed the connection
a shield on your chest
to protect from affection
lost for awhile
in your thoughts of
perfection
wondering, wandering
alone with my thoughts
doing the puzzles
from dot to dot
gathering speed
measuring the knots
of things I knew
and those I forgot
all looks different
in the light of the day
of those we catch
or the getaways
looking more closely
at what I have splayed
you were the hunter
and I, just the prey

moonlight and memory
moonlight and memory burn in dreams
and poetry can not capture
thoughts and feelings from long ago
when you held me enraptured
tossing and turning I do not rest
trying to avoid this faceless apparition
the body is there and the features appear
bringing the dream to fruition
hurry sun and rise, shine through these blinds
so once more, it will all disappear
let coffee clear my head, erasing this dread
that reminds me that you are not here

Someday
I gave you something precious
You tossed it to the side
Something unimportant to you
But essential to my life
I gave to you my purest love
My spirit and my passion
You used the part you wanted
And took the rest for granted
Leaving my heart broken
You’ve moved to your next mark
Betraying all that I hold dear
Before you did embark
Someday unsuspecting
The tables will be turned
You will experience this kind of loss
Once your heart gets burned
You tossed it to the side
Something unimportant to you
But essential to my life
I gave to you my purest love
My spirit and my passion
You used the part you wanted

abyss
in a far off place
a land full of dreams
wonder approaches
although asleep
I can taste the sweetness
on my lips
if I move
it slips into the abyss
of darkness

dancing with a shadow
close your eyes
pretend I am there
an apparition
from out of thin air
the scent of want
the taste of desire
soaked in cold sweat
a soul set on fire
dancing with a shadow
chords strummed from deep thought
music playing in your head
from our phantom wroughts
sleepless are the nights that come
dreams return the same
whispering a chorus line
whispering my name

it drifts
in the valley of the moon...it drifts
light and white, a dense fog
waiting for closed eyes and unguarded thought
as images impale cerebral hemispheres
whimsically it dallies, a shadow on dark walls
flashes of color play on the backdrop of dreams
while softly it whispers a lullaby
a sweet dream comes

support
you're there for support when my computer's out of wack
there when I need to handle something with tact
there to cheer me when I need a good laugh
you my dear friend is where it is at!
a friend that sticks closer than a brother would
keeping me in line--just like they should
does it with feeling and for my own good
does it better than anyone could
there when it's all spinning out of control
there with the answers I need to know
there when it's bleak and I need some hope
you're a part of my heart, a part of my soul

adrift
I cork the past in a bottle
tossing it into the sea
watch it as it drifts
far away from me
one last time I turn away
sauntering down the beach
this time the bottle doesn't come back
it stays adrift at sea
better for knowing all I know
than living in a dream

mean streets
standing on two feet, back on
these mean streets of love
searching for a road
with heart and with hope
and I know you are out there
I measure the cost of
what is gained and is lost
consumed by the fire
burning hotter and higher
and I know you are out there
I want to dance
to a song that is long
a never ending story
etched in memory
tattooed on my heart
and I know you are out there
somewhere, you are out there

Prolific
Was told I am prolific
Maybe I am
Also told I have an alter ego
Maybe they are both right
Could be
Maybe I am like Sybil
Too many souls to inhabit one body
Maybe not enough
You choose
Maybe it is my Gemini nature
Only two spirits
One happy, one tormented
Maybe I am
Also told I have an alter ego
Maybe they are both right
Could be
Maybe I am like Sybil

I'm anticipating excitement
I'm anticipating fun
I'm anticipating romance
before that day is done
I'm thinking about the last time
I'm thinking about that day
I'm thinking about that long sweet kiss
before you went away
I'm hoping that you feel it
I'm hoping you're excited too
I'm hoping you want to dance with me
before the music's through
I'm anticipating excitement
I'm anticipating fun
I'm anticipating romance

play
I sometimes miss details that require attention
the list gets longer, adding more every day
some things may deserve an honorable mention
but you know that is not my way
I sometimes don't always get things just right
say words out loud when I should have bit my lip
but I do my very best to rectify
all of those spoken thoughts I let slip
there is little out there to offer reprieve
doing my best to just merely survive
like the pitcher who is looking for his relief
everything is buzzing inside this beehive
seems the more I learn, that much more I forget
and everyday kinda seems like groundhog day
I just need to laugh more and not get upset
I just need to take off and not work but play

would you?
would you climb a mountain
to get to me?
would you sail across
a stormy sea?
would you ride the desert
an oasis to find?
would you answer
what stays unresolved
in my mind?
would you listen with heart
to questions I ask?
would you break the hunger
with sweet repast?
would you sing me a song
others haven't heard?
or hum me a tune
forgetting the words?

destiny
destiny is a funny thing
it can pass you buy without even winking
you can laugh it off with smooth composure
the photo shows as overexposure
sanity rests on a rocky mountainside
no rain for days, it's arid and dry
there is lightning from the heat
lack of thunder makes it incomplete
blood seeps red and drops in code
thoughts will make your heart explode
destiny...an accident waiting to happen
what once rested smooth is now misshapen
call it destiny or maybe kismet
maybe there's one you haven't met yet
pack all your stuff in one neat bag
hoping whoever opens will read the tag

fairytale
I remember the way we laughed
at little things, others didn’t get it
but you and I did
I remember the way we loved
to watch monsoons, see the
lightning flash, listen to the thunder
I remember the way we started out
each day, over morning coffee
talking about simple things
I remember the look that you had
just for me, that twinkle in your eye
you thought I didn’t see
I remember the way your touch felt
on my skin, the instant heat left
warming from within
I remember the way a kiss could
make me melt, one was not enough
for either of us
Sometimes you think, you’ve finally
found the fairytale
Sometimes when it ends
it’s not how you planned it
at all
at little things, others didn’t get it
but you and I did
I remember the way we loved
to watch monsoons, see the
lightning flash, listen to the thunder
I remember the way we started out

winter's song
virgin snow fell to the ground
white and crisp it made no sound
covering all in its cold wonder
warmer days now hidden under
a winter's song I sang with you
heating nights with passion new
fading with the coming of spring
put away with winter things
once again, winter comes
feelings that once left me numb
eased the way for clean mind
once old love is put aside
someone cares here very deep
reaching for me in his sleep
wonder comes now once again
feelings stir and now do blend

rebuild the wall
as I wrap my mind
around the truth
push back the feelings
stirred by you
tell my heart
it's nothing new
rebuild the wall
left crumbled into

by my side
Rancho la Joya stretches out for miles
the horses are gone--but not the corrals
with a black dog named Boo, who watches it all
from late in the evening to every breaking dawn
one silver horse is all that remains
you turn the key and the thrill is the same
all leathered up in our jackets and chaps
sheltered from the cold, we ride without maps
into the mountains on trails that you know
your hands on grips and warmed by your gloves
my arms around you--holding on tight
the sun sinks slowly now, moon and stars guide
peaceful and beautiful alone on this trail
this scenic path without any guardrails
onward and upward, smooth is our ride
I will go anywhere with you by my side
