quiet

it is all quiet
the western front sleeps
white noises ebb...my mind rests
dreams are of cotton candy clouds
the sky no longer bleeds
the moon glows, the stars shine
the western front sleeps

the beast

you fed the beast
and nursed its growth
it's devouring your spirit,
absorbing your soul
now out of control it
obliterates the night
massive paws sweeping
the stars from your sky

unable to stop the
apocalypse that builds
a tourniquet untwisted
as the truth is revealed
too late to impede, the
demolition goes on
the beast you created
destroying your love

trials

I have to use my bicycle
gas prices are too high
I won't do electric, cause
in a few kilos it dies
my mind is really spinning
it's hurting my lifestyle
I can't see the distance
when I used to see for miles
from my side I get head shakes
from the other I get smiles
I don't know what they're thinking
but I don't like this trial
my other ride was fancy
and it had many dials
now I'm on a plain one
because I must comply

that ship sailed

you wonder if you called me up
when you're in the depths of despair
thinking maybe I'll just show up
maybe I'll suddenly appear
did that ship sail far away?
or maybe it just sank
either way I'm telling you
just how low you rank

holding on to it way too tight
my heart inside your hand
but you weren't thinking clearly
nothing worked as you planned
the fever pitch was way too fast
you missed it time and again
as it all slipped through your fingers
the shredded ribbon strands

some thoughts bring back the laughter
and some from darkest hell
either way, I'm telling you
we both have stories to tell
delete me from your speed dial
erase my special tune
make your bed and lay there
mine won't be shared with you

a moment in poetry

a moment caught in poetry
I want to always hold
I close my eyes and capture
this memory of purest gold

a dream slips into memory
right here where it will linger
the sun rising on the horizon
with the voice of heavenly singers

it fills me with this wonder
a soft breeze in my mind
a whisper I can walk on
that spans the breath of time

let them fall

let them fall without fragrant line
teardrops one by one they drop
if I bottle it up, and they don't fall
I will die a little inside

a release of anxiety or maybe what's lost
each word smeared, by incessant saline
I don't care --I'll just start again
no matter if you read or not

how many times, have I gotten the call?
your world shattered, what do I do?
never once asking, how is it with you?
my life pushed inside my heart

a fool's game

I listened to all, every word that you shared
you spilled it all while I sat there
nodding my head like I understood
feeling compassion like any friend would

inside a voice screams what about me?
I'm tired of it all and pretending is weak
you tell me your secrets, stockpiled and stacked
not stopping to breath, or checking for facts

you spill it all and it pools on the floor
the spillage is thick, I know I'm done for
I realized early, a fool's game I played
for desperate measures I should've prayed

go ahead and talk, the walls will now listen
and I turn my head as the tears start to glisten
I listened too long and fell far too deep
climbing out won't happen, the walls are too steep

aftermath

the whisper of your words
as they tangle in my hair
the evening slipping away
the passion resting there
the shadows in the room
hidden in your lover's lair
truth on the tip of a tongue
a heart which won't be spared

the morning dawning red
a caution for the sea
a storm is about to come
while you shake yourself free
and as you lay it down
your eyes looking through me
my love an apparition
something you don't need

go ahead and turn your back
it's what you always do
how many times I've been here
as we tried to work it through
my heart is once more bleeding
another casualty in your path
another walking wounded
in the hazy aftermath

once too weak to turn away
a welcome always came
you there flirting endlessly
but can't recall my name
this time no surrender
when I find you at my door
no white flag or welcome back
this time you lost the war

Veterans Day

we honor our vets both here and gone
who fight the wars whether right or wrong
on foreign soil or domestic lands
our future held in the palm of their hands
God bless our troops

the final coup

out of the midst of chronic deception,
lifting my head to unfounded untruth
blinded by rage at many transgressions
waiting silently for the final coup

the silent majority standing by
voting in confidence to obstruct the path
too little to late for this outcry
far outnumbered if you do the math

little by little, one by one
observe first hand their seditiousness
not much time, patriots under the gun
to put a stop to audaciousness

out of the midst of chronic deception,
lifting my head to unfounded truth
blinded by rage at many transgressions
waiting silently for the final coup

past perfection

resurrecting, reflecting, remembering
I thought I would never forget
how we met
how we loved
perfection
a place in my heart
where your memory dies
and past perfections
no longer abide

let it flow

let it flow
feel me course
let it run
fill you up
let it burn
like it burns in me
let it flow
let it flow

a quick rhyme

pure and bright
full moon light
slow demise
with the sun's light

the sun's light
does energize
much to do
under sky of blue

sky of blue
azure hew
taking time
for a quick rhyme

a quick rhyme
on my downtime
night again falls
cyclical all

life

it slips, it slides, it floats away....
it's more than I can grasp..
I can't wrap my mind around..
how fleeting and how fast
grasping at all these memories
all these thought and all these dreams
this life and all its sweet repass
soars off on newfound wings

glimmer

a glimmer does not come
your hand steady not tipped
silence--others watching
your cards close to your chest
stoic, no twitches or tremors
never betraying what you hold
the stakes are slowly building
my ante will not come
one more chance to beat you
one more winner take all
I look at the flush dealt me
and then I quickly fold

adieu

you weren't expecting
the ace of hearts
who snuck right in
and filled your part
an empty vessel
waiting at the table
he was wanting more
adept and able

you weren't thinking
that we could end
not worrying about
how we did begin
not seeing the space
that left me wanting
all of the while
you sat there yawning

a decade ago
you had a chance
not sure if you knew
even how to dance
but waltzing I did
just not with you
as the curtain falls
and I bid adieu

truth

if what I read
held any truth
if it was more about me
and less about you
if it was less opaque
things I contemplate
then maybe, just maybe
things would be great

I think it could go
if there were two
less about others
just me and you
the things you say
and the things you do
would make the difference
in how things are skewed

I could write the book
on how you think
when it all falls down
I'm pushed to the brink
apologies given
you keep your grip
as insecurities
slowly slip

the state of the union

they contradict the warriors
while criminals get set free
our forefathers toss and turn
at what, at last, will be
Google shows positions
even though you try to hide
and war will once more come
if we just bide our time

population control is working
as they jab them one and all
401's are tanking
the dollar again falls
businesses are closing
citizens do protest
they drive them back with soldiers
but they want to protect

Alexa always listens
and then she'll spill her guts
maybe it is nothing
maybe it means much
just stay under the radar
keep provisions close at hand
while monsters rear their heads
History will take a stand

he said he was uniting
but deep the wedge he drives
confusion thick in daylight
much more viscose at night
do we need to pray for Moses?
to once more free this land
or will the people rise up?
behind each wall they'll man

holding on

I don't want to replace
or forget memories
all lessons learned
sometimes selfishly
the time together
not a watch to rewind
as I stay strong
trying to move on
with few regrets
and that is what
I hold on to

sunrise

in this verdant valley
I sit with coffee and wait
quietly the dawn creeps
as sunrise takes my breath away

I see the reddening dawn
it's still early; no one's up
doves are chirping all around
as I pour my second cup

no better time of day
coffee and God's heaven above
waking in this peaceful place
 sheer perfection that I love

Infatuation

I said I loved your mind
the rest infatuation
you couldn't be more vague
or avoiding in conversation
choosing your words carefully
when I ask you to reveal
not trusting me with your feelings
when I pushed for what was real

what I read between the lines
faintly resembling truth
I pretend it's not for me
it's always been about you
does it stroke your ego?
when you took all that I gave
my one-sided feelings
no dues you'll ever pay

perusing what is left
a thimble not near full
never quite believing
that it was mostly bull
with alot of understanding
I let you off the hook
always rewriting chapters
in this well read book

Robbed

lyrics to a country song
about how he done her wrong
singing to me without feeling
while my heart is reeling
no chords hit the right note
it's gone that's all he wrote
she's the one that stole your heart
but I'm the one that got robbed

not a ditty 'bout a dog or train
still left here standing in the rain
no lyrics 'bout a cowboy and horse
no level of deep remorse
not a song about trashing your truck
Underwood's a little bit nuts
she's the one that stole your heart
but I'm the one that got robbed

lyrics sung ages the ages
music books with tons of pages
another top country hit
the CMA confirms it
recorded by Evans and Strait
many others up to this date
she's the one that stole your heart
but I'm the one that got robbed

felled

a savage crash
a lightning flash
a thunder crack
brings it all back
a shadow felled
hopeless hell
my heart locked
in a pine box
monsoon rain
washes away
answers vague
most every day

baby, you make me blue

just one little moment,
nothing out of the way
a few seconds for a text,
a call to just say Hey
something that would have really
added to my day
baby, you make me blue

just one little thought,
just poetry to me
just a few words penned,
a rhyme for me to read
no hints of anything special
you'd never plant that seed
baby, you make me blue

I know I ask a lot
and you won't make that climb
if I don't expect much
disappointment won't be mine
I always end up begging,
begging for more of your time
baby, you make me blue

it's all sorted in piles
like laundry that needs done
the hamper overflowing
waiting for wash day to come
pretty soon there's nothing,
nothing clean to don
baby, you make me blue

perfection

resurrecting, reflecting, remembering
I will never forget
how we met
how we loved
perfection
a place in my heart
you will always hold
all others replaced
buried with their past
